Loft is a 4ply / fingering weight yarn, woolen spun from Targhee-Columbia wool. The distinctive spinning process and light twist give Loft a unique bounce and airiess, ideal for feather-light lace, accessories, and garments. It is not a sock yarn, so treat it a little more gently when it’s on the winder and the needles. Loft is fleece-dyed and blended in 45 heathered colours.

Once your garment is blocked, the stitches will cohere in a beautifully even and sturdy fabric. Lace garments should open up to reveal stitch motifs with relatively mild blocking. Loft has great flexibility of gauge; it can be knit on 2mm (US 0) needles for a dense and durable fabric or on 4mm (US 6) needles for ethereal open work. Two strands of Loft held together can substitute for Shelter in patterns where you’d like greater stitch definition or a marled fabric of two colours.

Perfect for Colourwork

By: on 26 April 2020
Loft has become one of my favourite yarns! Because it is a woollen spun yarn it is almost weightless - even when knit up into a substantial garment. I chose to knit Andrea Mowry's Stonecrop sweater in three different shades of loft.  It is an allover colourwork yoke - perfect for Loft. The selection of colours offered in this range allow for amazing contrasts or subtle compliments. And that sweet fleckiness is perfection.  The yarn itself is fairly rustic and woolly - two of my favourite things! But after a good soak, it blooms and softens. I'm really looking forward to some cooler days and know I will get some good wear out of this garment this season.
