A surprisingly versatile yarnBy: Penny on 20 April 2020I chose Cotton-Yak when I decided to make a non-wool Soldotna (colour work top) - mainly because I fell in love with the mustard colour. But as I began to knit with it I came to love it for the texture and feel, and the finished garment has been my most-worn hand knit. A blend of cotton and yak, it comes in the most beautiful range of subdued colours (plus a few brights) - which almost all co-ordinate with each other. It's unusual almost crepe like twist makes it easy to knit (no splitting - plenty of bounce), it drapes beautifully and it super comfortable to wear. It is the ideal yarn to use for babies and children, and those of us who love hand knits, but get too hot in 100% wool, even in winter. Having played with some of the colours in knitted colour work, I would love to use Cotton-Yak to make a wee Boho-style crochet granny square rug, so I could play with combining even more of those beautiful subtle pinks, golds and greens.
