Sparrow is elegant in its simplicity. This beautiful 100% organic linen, made in Italy, has a clean, smooth hand that's crisp as you knit it. But after washing and wearing it becomes handkerchief soft. You can knit Sparrow on a variety of needle sizes depending on the drape and feel you want in your project. The yarn is a natural in lace patterns, carving out the yarn overs, but it’s fluid, too, in simple stockinette. It’s great in tanks, shawls, and breezy cardigans, and lovely as can be in bags, wash cloths, and other home accessories. Sparrow is spun in Italy from organic linen grown in Belgium.

The colours: Frond / Surf / Conch / Mineral / Mica are marled (two colours plied together).

Crispy, cool and drapey

By: on 21 April 2020
I made two projects from Sparrow this Summer and one of them is my most worn knitted item ever! I cannot believe it took me so long to try it and now I am in love with it! The yarn itself is round and smooth and plied so that it is doesn't split when you work with it. At first my knitting felt quite cool and crispy, the way only linen can feel, but the more it was handled the softer it became. Now that I have washed my finished top a few times if feels really soft. I was reluctant to try linen because I had heard that it can be hard on hands but at the gauge I used (22 stitches/10cm on 3.25mm needle) it was absolutely fine for me. In fact it was the only fibre I wanted to knit on humid summer days. I think nothing can beat the way linen washes and comes back to shape. It was very difficult to choose a colour in this range - there are so many beautiful shades. The ball/cake can be unruly so I hand-wound my skein and knitted from the outside of the ball. I will definitely use Sparrow again.
