The Fibre Company Meadow is the perfect combination of four luxurious fibres: merino, baby llama, silk and linen, spun into a 3 ply yarn that’s slightly heavier than a typical lace weight yarn. This blend of fibres and structure makes for a versatile yarn that works well on a variety of needle sizes and a wide array of projects. The crisp hand and stitch definition of linen with the sheen of silk is perfectly complimented by the softness of baby llama and merino. A yarn for fibre lovers who like a treat on the needles and for their handmades.

My desert island yarn

Meadow is the yarn I'd pick if I could knit from only one yarn for the rest of my life. Its a blend of wool, silk, linen and baby llama and it seems to combine the best of each fibre - the coolness and texture of linen, the ease of knitting of wool, the beautiful depth of colour and subtle sheen of silk and the softness and drape of llama. It is a joy to knit either in simple stocking stitch, where its texture can really shine, or for lace, where it is smooth without being too slippery - enough bounce to be easy on the hands, with enough body to show off the lace pattern. I knitted a large bridal shawl in the middle of January, and the linen kept the yarn cool in my hands. It also knits at a wide range of gauges - I have successfully knit it at a fine (lace) gauge and a looser (4ply) gauge. So far I have only knitted shawls and scarves, but I would love to make a between-seasons top or cardigan in Meadow - something like a Tegna or a Featherweight. The skeins also seem to go forever - nearly 500m in 100g!

Meadow is probably one of my favourites in the shop. The blend of fibres (merino, llama, silk, linen) makes for a soft, light and drapey fabric, and makes the colours nicely heathered. I have made a lavender cardigan by Libby Jonson called Huia and got gauge which was 27stitches on 3.25mm needles. Perfect garment fabric, dense enough to wear well, but light enough to drape beautifully on the body. Also in the shop is Helen's Kagerou vest which has a fit that seems to suit everyone and with the generous meterage of Meadow, you only need 1.5 skeins for the medium. Kagerou uses 2.75mm for the rib and 4mm for the body, so quite a versatile yarn.
