Welcome to the incredibly beautiful and luxuriously soft hand-dyed yarns from Blackwattle Yarn & Fibre.
Blackwattle Yarn and Fibre is the creation of Angela and Matthew Smith, which they run from their farm ‘Blackwattle Alpaca Farm’, located in Murrumbateman, NSW. Our farm and yarn businesses are named after the truly gorgeous blackwattle trees that grow across our property.
They started their alpaca fibre love affair following the purchase of two alpacas, when they moved to the farm in 2008. The alpaca numbers grew quickly and they now run a herd of about 70 alpacas, mainly breeding females.
Our yarn and fibre business grew from the humble beginning of processing and selling their own fibre grown by their herd, to a point now where they now purchase and process bulk fibre from a broad acre alpaca farm in Binda, NSW, which runs over 3500 alpacas.
As a trained artist, Angela uses her skills learnt while completing a Bachelor of Visual Arts, to now create master pieces on yarn. Paint on canvas = paint on yarn! As a visual artist, Angela has a passion for creating colours and emotions using yarn and dye as her canvas.
In collaboration with us, Angela has hand-dyed a range of colours which are exclusive to Skein Sisters.
