By Briony Yarn Artist
Briony is an independent yarn colourist, teacher and knitwear designer based in south east Melbourne. Under her exciting new label 'By Briony' (you may have known her previously as 'Gradient Yarn Australia'), she's exploring a new direction in dyeing, creating new ways of manipulating colour and combining techniques on local yarns. Using stunning bases of fingering weight Polwarth/Silk, 100% Polwarth wool (polwarth is a type of sheep, and Briony's yarn is grown at Tarndie, in Victoria) and the gorgeously soft Tasmanian White Gum Wool, Briony's sophisticated approach to hand dyeing has produced a beautiful palette of utterly covetable yarns. There are even a few bouclé and DK weight skeins if you're quick!
Included in this month's Sisters Spotlight are semi-solids, handpainted rainbow yarns, natural dyes (including some botanical prints which take up to 3 days to dye) and beautiful indigo dyed yarn - real indigo, not the synthetic variety. All of her semi solids would look beautiful paired with yarns from Blacker Yarns, White Gum Wool, Millpost Merino and Wren & Ollie.
