By Briony Yarn Artist
Briony is an independent yarn colourist, teacher and knitwear designer based in south east Melbourne. Under her beautiful label 'By Briony' (you may have known her previously as 'Gradient Yarn Australia'), she's exploring a new direction in dyeing, creating new ways of manipulating colour and combining techniques on local yarns. Briony is passionate about supporting local producers. She advocates buying with a purpose and creating a mindful life - being respectful of the process and encouraging makers who want to connect with their craft.
Using stunning bases of fingering weight Merino / Kid Mohair plus and the heavenly White Gum Wool from Tasmania teamed with Tussah Silk, Briony's sophisticated approach to hand dyeing has produced a beautiful palette of utterly covetable yarns. Briony has sent us a selection of sumptuous colours in her Valewood and Oatlands ranges. Valewood is a locally spun, truly luxurious fingering weight / 4ply yarn made from 60% Australian Kid Mohair and 40% Australian Merino. The construction of this yarn is a little different which in itself is exciting! 60% Kid Mohair and 20% Merino are gently twisted around a 20% Merino thread creating an incredibly soft yarn with a gently undulating texture. A touch of luxury perfect for accessories. Oatlands is a soft, squishy plump 5ply (light DK) on a gorgeous White Gum Wool base mixed with 30% Tussah silk. Plump and incredibly soft in the hand, Oatlands knits up with a beautiful stitch definition.
