Helen, the founder and owner of Knit or Dye, is an indie dyer based on Bribie Island, Queensland. As a trained marine biologist, Helen gains inspiration from the natural world, specifically animals, plants and landscapes native to Australia. Apart from dyeing yarn, Helen knits, crochets and spins, so knows the importance of good fibre. Her collection of hand dyed yarn is both beautiful, soft and practical, an often tricky combination!
Helen has always been ‘crafty’. As a child, she was shown by her parents that you can use your hands to make a living. She was exposed to fibre crafts at a young age and her obsessive personality trapped her in a yarn-shaped rabbit-hole! That same obsessive personality made fibre a very important practice to keep her anxieties in check.
Helen is passionate about the environment and strives to make her environmental footprint as small as possible in all aspects of her life, including her business which uses recycled and compostable packaging and almost zero plastic.
She a mother of two beautiful boys (3 years and 7 months) who are the most perfect (non-yarn related) things she has ever made.
