The Uncommon Thread was started in 2010 by Ce Persiano after she had been knitting for a few years. She also discovered Ravelry and became thoroughly addicted – particularly with luxury hand-dyed yarns. She loves colours, texture and is passionate about knitting.
Although Ce started off dyeing in her home kitchen, The Uncommon Thread has since grown considerably and now has retailers all around the world.
It is still an artisan company and all their yarns are dyed lovingly by hand in their studio in Brighton, England. They are still relatively small, but are constantly expanding in order to keep up with the demand for tjheir products.
Among the Uncommon Thread yarn bases, as well as wool, you’ll also find luxury fibres, such as cashmere, silk and alpaca for your knitting pleasure.
They feel strongly about the environment and aims to minimise the impact they have on it. They simmer the yarns for a long time so that as much dye as possible can bond with the fibres, rather than going down the drain. In addition, the farmers who grow the wool used for The Uncommon Thread yarns do not practice mulesing.
