Composed of 40% fine New Zealand merino, 30% organic cotton and 30% brushtail possum, Zealana Kiwi Fingering 4ply / fingering weight plied yarn is soft and durable with a smooth handle, and comes in a stunning range of heathery colours. With its blend of organic cotton with wool and possum fibres it's ideal for knitting garments for warmer climates. Fully machine washable, it's perfect for hats, sweaters, shawls and other garments and accessories. Suitable for crochet or knitting patterns calling for fingering weight yarn.

Since its introduction to New Zealand by fur traders in the late 19th century, the non-native brushtail possum population has reached staggering proportions largely due to the lack of natural predators that would otherwise maintain an ecological balance. The consequences of rapidly increasing possum numbers are many, including damaging impacts on New Zealand’s native flora and fauna. Zealana is committed to the responsible management of the brushtail possum in New Zealand and the production of their yarn using possum fibre helps make New Zealand's ecosystem a lot healthier.

Due to its hollow nature, possum fibre offers superb lightness and warmth. Its exceptional thermal properties make it up to 55% warmer than 100% merino wool, plus the combination of the fibre scale structure and the Zealana finishing process make this yarn ultra soft yet durable.
