Colour is at the heart of Shetland Shades. During the months Gudrun spent living on the islands, inspiration was quite literally on her doorstep: the autumn colours of the hills, blues of the winter seas, yellow lichens growing on grey rocks and the ever-changing shades of the Shetland landscape.
These colours find their way into the book's twelve designs through traditional Fair Isle, colour blocking, mosaic knitting and marling. Worked in Shetland wool, the collection celebrates both the extraordinary natural palette of the islands and Gudrun's distinctive, contemporary approach to colour.
About the designer: for Gudrun Johnston this collection is deeply personal. Shetland is her birthplace, and its knitting traditions, landscape and colours have shaped both her family history and creative life. While working on the book, Gudrun and her husband spent several months living in a small cottage by the sea in Shetland, immersed in the landscape that inspired the collection.
Hardcover, Swiss binding, 215 pages.
