Rosários 4 started life in the late 1970s as a little dyeing house in Mira de Aire, in central Portugal, run by Manuel Delfim do Rosário – the founder, and the company's dyer himself.
It grew the opposite way round to most yarn companies. The dyehouse came first, and the spinning mill grew up around it through the 80s. And the roots go back further still: in the 1930s Manuel Delfim's grandmothers and uncles were carding wool for beanies and blankets, and his mother wove blankets on wooden looms – something the region still does today.
Everything is still spun and dyed in Portugal. They love creating value, so look at nature as an example and inspiration, investing in natural fibres and natural origin fibres as a path towards a higher sustainability. They love creating yarns because they believe that knitting, crocheting and embroidering makes people happier..
