Why you'll love it

Chaska Wara is a wonderfully soft DK / 8ply yarn with a unique construction that gives it a light, airy feel and a gentle fluffy halo. A fine cotton tube forms the core, with fibres of baby alpaca and merino wool blown through the centre, creating a yarn that feels soft and light while still having lovely body.

The different colours in the core and outer fibres give Wara a subtle marled effect - a little like stonewashed denim - adding depth and interest to the finished fabric.

We’ve had yarns with a similar construction in the past that we absolutely loved, but we stopped stocking those ranges when the favourite colours were discontinued. Wara fills that gap beautifully - and the addition of baby alpaca makes it even softer.

It’s smooth to knit with and produces a fabric that is soft, light and comfortable to wear. Its excellent stitch definition makes it a versatile choice for colourwork, cables, lace or simple stocking stitch, where the texture of the yarn really shines.

Perfect for beanies, jumpers, cardigans, vests and cosy accessories.

Yarn Weight vs Yarn Ply

"Ply" technically refers to the construction of the yarn. It's the number of strands that are twisted together to make a single piece of yarn. While "ply" historically related to the thickness (or weight) of the yarn, today's spinning technology means that the number of plies doesn't always correspond directly to the thickness of the yarn.

However, in some countries, including Australia & the UK, the numbering system of yarn ply still refers to the thickness of the yarn, so it's possible to have a single ply 4ply yarn! - this means that the yarn is constructed of a single ply, but has the traditional thickness of a 4ply sock / fingering yarn).
