Leizu Fingering is a divine hand-dyed wool/silk blend in a softly luminous, 4ply/fingering weight yarn with a superb handle in Julie's fabulously sophisticated colourways. Wonderful for shawls, scarves, cowls, cardigans and jumpers. It's one of those yarns that seems to knit itself and holds stitches beautifully, whether they are in lace, cables, colourwork or the simplicity and elegance of stocking stitch. We love it!

Yarn Weight vs Yarn Ply

"Ply" technically refers to the construction of the yarn. It's the number of strands that are twisted together to make a single piece of yarn. While "ply" historically related to the thickness (or weight) of the yarn, today's spinning technology means that the number of plies doesn't always correspond directly to the thickness of the yarn.

However, in some countries, including Australia & the UK, the numbering system of yarn ply still refers to the thickness of the yarn, so it's possible to have a single ply 4ply yarn! - this means that the yarn is constructed of a single ply, but has the traditional thickness of a 4ply sock / fingering yarn).

Julie Asselin

Behind Julie Asselin Yarns are Julie and Jean-François, two craftspeople who've been working with textiles since 2011. They dye in their own workshop in Sherbrooke, Quebec, and keep refining how they do it, with production kept local and responsible.

Their whole approach to colour comes from one idea. Lots of people talk about stepping out of your comfort zone – Julie and Jean-François would rather you stretched it, broke down its borders and made your own path. So go on, pick the colour you'd never normally reach for.
