Boneyard Shawl Kit in Fiori DK
Why you'll love it
Start your shawl knitting journey with the Boneyard Shawl by Stephen West of Westknits, knitted in 8ply/DK weight hand-dyed Fiori merino yarn. Perfect for adventurous beginner knitters.
The Boneyard Shawl by Stephen West's very first design, published in 2009 and named after the Boneyard Arts Festival in Urbana, Illinois. This iconic triangular shawl begins at the top centre with a garter tab cast on, then grows outward with simple increases to create a versatile and wearable accessory. The clean garter stitch fabric makes it ideal for showcasing tonal or lightly variegated yarns, and it’s easy to customise in size.
With just three 100g skeins of DK yarn, you can make a warm, cosy wrap, or choose two 100g skeins of 4ply for a lighter draping version. Once you’ve made one, it’s a fantastic blank canvas for experimenting with stripes, textures and colour combinations.
Knitted from the top down, this pattern is a relaxing knit for adventurous beginners and a satisfying palate cleanser for experienced shawl makers.
Techniques used
- Garter tab cast on

You’ll love knitting this simple yet elegant shawl. The Boneyard Shawl is the perfect project to start your shawl journey and will have you hooked on Westknits shawl patterns in no time.
