Kirsty hand-dyes every one of these in small batches – pure Australian cotton, in gradient boxes built to flow from one shade to the next. Hand-dyed cotton is rare to begin with; hand-dyed Australian cotton is something quite special.

Each box holds six 100g balls – around 2400 metres of colour to play with – in 4ply / fingering weight, presented in a lovely box that's ready to gift or keep for yourself.

Yarn Weight vs Yarn Ply

"Ply" technically refers to the construction of the yarn. It's the number of strands that are twisted together to make a single piece of yarn. While "ply" historically related to the thickness (or weight) of the yarn, today's spinning technology means that the number of plies doesn't always correspond directly to the thickness of the yarn.

However, in some countries, including Australia & the UK, the numbering system of yarn ply still refers to the thickness of the yarn, so it's possible to have a single ply 4ply yarn! - this means that the yarn is constructed of a single ply, but has the traditional thickness of a 4ply sock / fingering yarn).

At Life In Loops, Kirsty believes the most beautiful things in life are made slowly, thoughtfully, and with love stitched into every step. This little yarn studio near Newcastle, NSW, began with the simple idea that colour and creativity can bring people together, and that hand-made pieces hold memories in a way store-bought things never could.

Kirsty and Paul are a small Australian family business running on early mornings, dye-splattered aprons, sentimental patterns, and the deep joy of watching makers all over the country bring their yarn to life. Kirsty dyes the yarn and Paul handcrafts every crochet hook.
