Are you ready to take your knitting projects to the next level? Swatching is the secret to beautifully fitting garments and successful projects — but it’s often skipped or misunderstood. In this hands-on, 2-hour class, you’ll learn everything you need to know about swatching your knitting with confidence and purpose. Whether you’re eager to start a new project or just want to understand your yarn better, this workshop is all about the practical side of swatching — from casting on to casting aside uncertainty!

What You’ll Learn:

  • Knit a Swatch in the Round — the Easy Way: Discover the “cheat” method for swatching in the round without all the fuss. We’ll experiment with multiple needle sizes to find your fabric’s sweet spot.

  • Measure Like a Pro: Learn the best practices for measuring your swatch accurately, before and after blocking.

  • Make Smart Assessments: Understand what your unblocked swatch is telling you — from drape and density to potential pitfalls.

  • Master Gauge/Tension Maths: Decode gauge instructions and learn the simple maths that makes all the difference between a perfectly fitted project and a knitting mishap.

  • Take-Home Instructions: Leave with detailed guidelines on how to block and re-measure your swatch for final accuracy.

What To Bring
  • Your chosen pattern and yarn – or just yarn if you want to swatch before picking a pattern. A variety of needle sizes – including the yarn's recommended needle size plus a size above and below.
  • Detailed instructions on how to block and re-measure your swatch, plus all the knowledge to swatch with confidence!
Class Prep

There is no preparation for this class.

If you need to purchase materials on the day of your class please arrive 20 minutes early and we’ll help you with your selection.

You’ll receive a 10% discount on any yarn, notions and book purchases you make in store on the day.

  • The main shop is accessible to all.
  • The double doors on New Canterbury Road allow for flat access to the shop.

Parking

  • There is plenty of all-day and two-hour parking around Skein Sisters. 
  • Parking along New Canterbury Road, directly outside the shop, allows for access to the shop for those using wheelchairs or disability scooters. 

Public Transport

  • We are a 10-minute walk from Hurlstone Park train station, as well as Dulwich Grove Light Rail station. Buses also run along New Canterbury Road past the shop.

Cancellation

You can cancel a class booking...

  • Up to 7 days before the class – you are able to cancel and receive a full refund.
  • 7 days – 72 hours before the class – we are able to offer a credit but we cannot guarantee a full refund unless another booking fills your spot.
  • Less than 72 hours before the class – no credit or refund available.

Class Terms & Conditions

Full payment is required prior to the start of the class to confirm your spot.

Minimum numbers – All classes require a minimum of three people in order to go ahead and, depending on the class, a maximum of ten. If your class or workshop does not have the minimum number of students, the class will be postponed and you will be notified within three days of the class date if it has been cancelled or changed. We cannot be held liable for travel or any other costs in the event of a cancellation.

If your class is postponed or cancelled you can use the amount paid to transfer to another event/activity, use it as a store credit, or be issued a full refund.
