Sophie's Universe Kit in Lucca

Crochet the wonderful Sophie's Universe blanket with one of our yarn kits. You'll love every stitch of this amazing project, with many of our staff who've crocheted it saying it's the most fun project they've ever made.

Sophie’s Universe by Dedri Uys is much more than just a continuous square blanket; it is a journey of discovery. Although the pattern is advanced, it has been written specifically for adventurous beginners and if you follow along with the videos you'll be amazed at what you can achieve.

Our own kits

To celebrate this wonderful project, we have put together these kits in four beautiful yarns. The original blanket uses Scheepjes yarns and we have done our best to match the colours in our own versions. If you want to make your own variation, please let us know and we'll be very happy to help you select colours.

Choose from the following yarns:

• Fiddlesticks Wren - a smooth 8ply / DK weight cotton with a matte finish
• Fiddlesticks Finch - a smooth and soft 10ply / worsted weight cotton, which will create the largest blanket.
• Bellissimo Orchard - a DK / 8ply mercerized cotton wtih lovely sheen and drape
• Bellissimo 8 - Australian extra-fine merino 8ply / DK weight, soft and cosy
• Bellissimo Lucca - Australian merino/cotton blend 8ply / DK weight - the perfect in-between yarn combining warmth, breathability and structure.
  

The pattern for Sophie’s Universe is available as a free 20-week crochet-along. It contains step-by-step photos and helpful hints and is written in US terms. It is supported by detailed videos from the talented Esther Dijkstra.

The story of Sophie

Sophie’s Universe was a mystery crochet-along (CAL) hosted in 2015 by Kimberly Slifer and designed by Dedri Uys. Even though the CAL has now finished, the online community around it is still thriving and it is not hard to find a group where someone is making a Sophie, either individually or together.
