Why you'll love it

Urth Yarns Etesia is a breathable blend of cotton and linen that brings crisp structure and an effortless drape to your warm-weather projects. It’s light yet durable, and it softens beautifully with wear – perfect for transitional garments and layering.

Etesia is hand dyed in Turkey in a sun-washed palette with a few brighter notes, with colours named for the seaside – from Coral Reef and Starfish to Sea Glass, Spindrift and Whale. The fibre combination of linen and cotton gives a beautifully heathered look to the yarn.

  • 77% cotton, 23% linen
  • 8ply / DK weight
  • 250m / 275yds per 100g skein
  • Needle: 3.5mm–4.5mm or as recommended on the pattern
  • Hook: 3.5mm–4.5mm or as recommended on the pattern
  • Gauge: 20–24 stitches per 10cm
  • Hand dyed in Turkey

A little extra care will help your projects last. Urth Yarns are machine washable on a cool, delicate cycle, but hand washing in cold water is recommended. Lay flat to dry and never use a dryer. Washing your gauge swatch is a good idea, especially with darker or more saturated colours.

This is a hand dyed yarn and each skein is unique. For best results, we recommend alternating skeins when you work with it.

Yarn Weight vs Yarn Ply

"Ply" technically refers to the construction of the yarn. It's the number of strands that are twisted together to make a single piece of yarn. While "ply" historically related to the thickness (or weight) of the yarn, today's spinning technology means that the number of plies doesn't always correspond directly to the thickness of the yarn.

However, in some countries, including Australia & the UK, the numbering system of yarn ply still refers to the thickness of the yarn, so it's possible to have a single ply 4ply yarn! - this means that the yarn is constructed of a single ply, but has the traditional thickness of a 4ply sock / fingering yarn).
