If you knit socks, you know

Four sock yarn worries we hear all the time

You just want a beautiful yarn that knits up a treat and survives being worn.
It shouldn't be this hard.

You find the perfect colour – and it's sold out

The one shade you had your heart set on, gone. Hand-dyed ranges run out fast, and the dye lot you loved never comes back.

They wear through at the heels and toes

Hours of knitting, and a few months later there's a hole. Soft merino on its own just can't take the friction.

Hand-washing socks? No thank you

If a yarn can't go through the machine, those socks quietly live at the bottom of the drawer, unworn.

Will the colour pool into stripes?

Buying hand-dyed online is a leap of faith – you can't squish it first, and you're never quite sure how it'll knit up.

Meet Fabulous Sock

One sock yarn that answers all four

We dye every skein ourselves, here in Dulwich Hill, Sydney – and we built it to solve the things sock knitters actually worry about.

How it works

From colour to cast-on

Pick your colour

Browse over 140 hand-dyed shades and choose how many skeins your project needs – one skein makes a typical adult pair.

We pack it with care

We match your dye lots, wrap it beautifully and post it to you – wherever you are in Australia.

Cast on the good part

Put the kettle on, pick up your needles, and enjoy the make. Stuck? Our team is always happy to help.

Knitting something bigger? Every skein is dyed by hand, so order all the skeins for a project together – we'll make sure they're matching dye lots before we pack and post them.
Good to know

Your questions, answered

That's exactly why Fabulous Sock is an 80/20 blend. The 20% nylon reinforces the high-friction spots – heels and toes – where pure merino tends to wear through. You get the softness of merino with the staying power socks need. For extra-long wear, many knitters also reinforce the heel and toe.

Yes. Fabulous Sock is superwash treated, so a finished pair can go through the machine on a delicate cycle. Dry them flat and skip the tumble dryer, and they'll keep their shape and colour beautifully.

It's a completely normal worry with hand-dyed yarn – and one Julia, our dyer, takes very seriously. She designs every variegated colourway using her own specially developed colour application technique, so the colours transform and blend beautifully in the finished fabric without pooling. And if you love a calmer look, there are plenty of solid and soft semi-solid shades too.

Because we dye every skein ourselves, we're not limited to what's on the shelf. If the colour you want has sold out, choose 'Dyed to order' on the product page and we'll dye it especially for you – the current dye date is shown right there when you choose. It means your colour is never truly gone.

One 100g skein (400m) is plenty for a typical pair of adult socks, with a little left over for reinforcing. For larger feet, longer cuffs or bigger projects like shawls and jumpers, see the pattern's yardage and we're happy to help you work out how much you'll need.

Yes – when you order more than one skein for a project, we make sure they're matching dye lots before we pack and post them. One less thing to think about, so you can get straight to the good part.
