Yarn Weight vs Yarn Ply

"Ply" technically refers to the construction of the yarn. It's the number of strands that are twisted together to make a single piece of yarn. While "ply" historically related to the thickness (or weight) of the yarn, today's spinning technology means that the number of plies doesn't always correspond directly to the thickness of the yarn.

However, in some countries, including Australia & the UK, the numbering system of yarn ply still refers to the thickness of the yarn, so it's possible to have a single ply 4ply yarn! - this means that the yarn is constructed of a single ply, but has the traditional thickness of a 4ply sock / fingering yarn).

Super lovely 10 ply/worsted yarn, the colour is really gorgeous and it's very nice to work with given the merino/cotton mix.

Just stunning

Purchased Linden in Tobacco (brown) for a baby blanket. Gorgeous rich colour with a very slight sheen, great squish, fantastic stitch definition and blocked beautifully. Would highly recommend for anyone making an heirloom piece!

Bellissimo

Bellissimo is a brand owned by Texyarns, a Melbourne yarn wholesaler producing yarn since 1952. It sits at the luxury end of their stable – and at the top end of what's made commercially by the ball.

Much of it is extra fine merino, a good deal of it spun in Italy, and the colour palettes are the kind you plan a whole project around. You can expect a genuinely high-quality yarn.

Beyond the merino there's mercerised cotton and merino-cotton blends, so the range offers woolly and warm to cool and crisp.
