The Colour of Music Collection by Daffodil Road Yarn is inspired by 24 different musicals, forming a glorious rainbow of yarn. Choose your favourite musical or combine a few colours for some beautiful harmony! Originally offered as mini skeins for the 2025 Colour of Music Advent Calendar, we have full skeins of each lovely colour.

Hand dyed on Plush Sock, a 75% superwash merino, 25% nylon 4ply / sock weight base, it's perfect for durable handmade socks, shawls and lightweight garments for both knitting and crochet. It has a tight twist texture and added nylon for durability and strength.

Yarn Weight vs Yarn Ply

"Ply" technically refers to the construction of the yarn. It's the number of strands that are twisted together to make a single piece of yarn. While "ply" historically related to the thickness (or weight) of the yarn, today's spinning technology means that the number of plies doesn't always correspond directly to the thickness of the yarn.

However, in some countries, including Australia & the UK, the numbering system of yarn ply still refers to the thickness of the yarn, so it's possible to have a single ply 4ply yarn! - this means that the yarn is constructed of a single ply, but has the traditional thickness of a 4ply sock / fingering yarn).

Daffodil Road Yarn

Daffodil Road began in 2019 in Tasmania's Huon Valley – Sara at the dyepots, her husband Duncan alongside her and seven children in the house. In mid-2024 the whole lot moved north to Hervey Bay in Queensland, and that's where Sara dyes now, between walks on the beach.

It's still just Sara, by hand, in a small home studio. She sources natural fibres from Australia and further afield – merino, Blue Faced Leicester, silk, yak, baby camel and alpaca – and she spins as well as dyes.

Sara keeps her packaging and practices as sustainable as she can, and gives back through fundraisers and giveaways.
