Made from a breathable cotton and acrylic blend, Eddy is light to wear and lovely to work with. The strands are smoothly twisted to help prevent splitting and make for quick, easy stitching.

Yarn Weight vs Yarn Ply

"Ply" technically refers to the construction of the yarn. It's the number of strands that are twisted together to make a single piece of yarn. While "ply" historically related to the thickness (or weight) of the yarn, today's spinning technology means that the number of plies doesn't always correspond directly to the thickness of the yarn.

However, in some countries, including Australia & the UK, the numbering system of yarn ply still refers to the thickness of the yarn, so it's possible to have a single ply 4ply yarn! - this means that the yarn is constructed of a single ply, but has the traditional thickness of a 4ply sock / fingering yarn).

Fiddlesticks

Fiddlesticks is owned by Texyarns, a Melbourne wholesaler that's been supplying yarn across Australia and New Zealand since 1952. For years they sat on the other side of the counter, working as an agent for the European spinners – the ones whose yarn ended up in the jumpers on the shelf.

Then hand knitting took off, and they decided to make their own. The name came about with rather less planning. Co-founder Peter Betros told Crochet Australia, "I don't know if it was inspiration, but I do know there was a lot of 'what do you think of this name…' And finally it was Fiddlesticks!"

We love that. It tells you exactly where the range comes from – not a grand plan, but seven decades of watching what knitters and crocheters actually reach for. Quality yarns in merino, cotton, alpaca and more.
