Want to add some sparkle to your life? With Kremke Soul Wool Stellaris, you can knit the sparkly thread with any yarn to add some glitz to your socks, shawls, jumpers and more! Stellaris is a gorgeous sparkle yarn with a lovely range of colours that is soft and easy to work with.

Knit the laceweight yarn together with other yarns to add glamorous sparkle, or hold 2 or 3 strands together to create stripes or contrasting edges. The yarn is fine but strong - and it doesn't add any thickness to your main yarn.

Colour co-ordinate with your main yarn for subtle highlights, or go bold and use a contrast sparkle. You'll have so much fun coming up with new combinations.

Needles and hooks: when working with a single strand on its own, use a 1.5mm. When using with other yarns, use the size recommended for your main yarn.

Yarn Weight vs Yarn Ply

"Ply" technically refers to the construction of the yarn. It's the number of strands that are twisted together to make a single piece of yarn. While "ply" historically related to the thickness (or weight) of the yarn, today's spinning technology means that the number of plies doesn't always correspond directly to the thickness of the yarn.

However, in some countries, including Australia & the UK, the numbering system of yarn ply still refers to the thickness of the yarn, so it's possible to have a single ply 4ply yarn! - this means that the yarn is constructed of a single ply, but has the traditional thickness of a 4ply sock / fingering yarn).

Kremke Soul Wool

Britta and Carsten Kremke nearly named this brand Slow Wool, after the Slow Food movement – which tells you most of what you need to know. A yarn only joins the range if the knitting of it is a pleasure in itself. No finger-thick quick-knits. No synthetic-heavy blends.

Britta has knitted since she was eight, in her mother's yarn shop in Hamburg, and by twenty-one she was the youngest yarn-shop owner in Germany. She still personally tests every product that carries the name.

What they're after is fine, soft, natural yarn at a fair price – combinations that simply aren't made elsewhere, filling the gaps the big brands leave. All their wool is mulesing-free, their mohair is certified to the Responsible Mohair Standard, and there are vegan and recycled yarns for anyone who'd rather not use animal fibre at all. Which makes sense when you think how long one piece takes. Ten hours? Fifty? Every one of those minutes may as well be a pleasure.
