Short Row Knitting with Tash
Learn all about knitting short rows - what they're for, different types, how to knit them, and how to make your finished fabric look good. Improve your technical knitting skills & understand how short rows are used in patterns for shaping & great fit.
Have you ever looked at a knitting pattern, come across the term 'short rows' or 'wrap and turn' but have no idea what to do or why they're used in the pattern? Short rows are one of the magic tricks of knitting and are used extensively in knitting patterns for all sorts of projects. Short rows are a useful knitting technique to learn because they're used for shaping and to improve fit: e.g. in necklines, bust, waist, shoulders & hems, sock heels and shawls.
During the class:
- Learn how to knit the most common types of short rows you'll come across including wrap and turn, German short rows and Japanese short rows.
- Practice short rows on a piece of sample knitting.
- Talk about the types of projects where short rows are useful.
At the end of the class you'll know how short rows work, how to knit them, and why they're used.
Skills required: This class is suitable for advanced beginner or intermediate knitters who have a good understanding of basic knitting techniques, such as knit, purl, and increase / decrease stitches.
The class is hands-on and practical, and there will be plenty of time for questions and group discussion in class.

Your teacher: Tash Childers
Tash has been knitting ever since her grandmother taught her at 8 years of age. She was always a fearless knitter, tackling an all-over intarsia vest for her mum as her first garment when she was 12. While taking time off from Mathematics teaching to raise her children, she taught many of her friends to knit and co-ordinated a mothers’ group for knitters. She is passionate about sharing the joy of knitting with others and helping knitters to improve their skills, so they have the confidence to tackle any project.
