There's nothing quite like linen on a warm summer's day, and CaMaRose Lovetand is linen at its loveliest. It's spun from 100% organic linen, and rather than being a single strand, a thin thread is knitted into a fine little tube. That tube is the clever bit – it makes the linen feel softer in the hand than a plain linen thread ever could.

Linen comes from the stem of the flax plant, which is what makes it so robust and hard-wearing. It can feel a touch crisp while you're knitting or crocheting it, but that's all part of its charm – linen softens beautifully with every wear and every wash. And it's naturally cooling, which is exactly what you want against your skin when the weather warms up.

Knit it into summer tops, tees, dresses and skirts. Or pick up a hook – Lovetand crochets into wonderfully firm fabric, just right for beach bags, purses and any accessory that needs to hold its shape.

The colour palette is dusty, classic and finely harmonised, so the shades sit together happily and you can mix them however you like. The flax is produced in Italy especially for CaMaRose.

One thing worth knowing: wash your finished piece gently at 30°C using a detergent made for linen. Regular detergents contain bleaches and solvents that will damage the linen fibres, so please don't use them on Lovetand.

Yarn Weight vs Yarn Ply

"Ply" technically refers to the construction of the yarn. It's the number of strands that are twisted together to make a single piece of yarn. While "ply" historically related to the thickness (or weight) of the yarn, today's spinning technology means that the number of plies doesn't always correspond directly to the thickness of the yarn.

However, in some countries, including Australia & the UK, the numbering system of yarn ply still refers to the thickness of the yarn, so it's possible to have a single ply 4ply yarn! - this means that the yarn is constructed of a single ply, but has the traditional thickness of a 4ply sock / fingering yarn).

CaMaRose

Trine started in 2010 with patterns, not yarn – a one-woman business selling knitting and crochet designs for babies and children. The yarn came later that same year, imported from Peru, and the first stockists followed.

In 2015 she renamed the business CaMaRose, after her three children: Carl-Emil, Mathilde and Anna-Rose – the reason she had started knitting in the first place. Her mission, in her own words, was to sell quality yarn under her own name that didn't otherwise exist on the market, at a price people could afford.

The yarns are still made to her specification by spinning mills abroad – Denmark is where the design and the deciding happen. The whole range is natural fibre, no acrylic or nylon anywhere, and she asks for certification where she can, while being clear that "a certification is not a final guarantee that everything is perfect".
