Araucania Yarns

Araucania Yarns creates beautiful tonal, tone-on-tone, and multi-colored natural hand-dyed yarns, inspired by ancient South American crafts which were often created using hand-painted natural yarns. Each hank is different and its individual beauty emerges as the artisan blends color in the kettle to create several unique shades.

Araucania Yarns started back in the early 2000's with one of the first ever kettle-dyed / hand-painted yarns called Nature Wool.

Nature Wool was created by a mother and daughter team in Chile who were hand-dying original and unique yarns. The pair met Sion (the owner of Knitting Fever) at a trade show and he loved what they were doing creatively with their yarn. After some negotiations, with the cooperation of mother and daughter and a new name, Araucania yarns was born. 

Araucania Yarns Nature Wool, Nature Wool Chunky and Patagonia were introduced and added to their range and for about 10 years the mother, daughter and their small team produced a stunning array of hand-dyed/kettle-dyed yarns. Knitting Fever would source and buy raw un-dyed yarn from around the world and send it to them to dye in Chile. 

The business for the small family team grew rapidly, but unfortunately as artisans they couldn't keep up with demand so they decided to close their hand-dying business. The mother went back to running a yarn shop and the daughter into architecture. 

Knitting Fever decided the brand was too beautiful to let go so continued to develop it and add hand-painted yarns from around the world. The brand now is more diverse with yarns from Italy, Peru, Turkey as well as Chile, spun from fibres like cotton and linen as well as wool.
