Knit Fair Isle Christmas Baubles with Linda
Linda’s adding a little sparkle to your needles this festive season! Join her for a merry workshop where you’ll learn to knit your own beautiful Fair Isle Christmas baubles – the perfect handmade touch for your tree, table or gift wrapping.
Once you’ve mastered the basic bauble, you’ll be able to mix and match patterns and colours to suit your own festive palette – from classic red and white to Scandi cool or a pastel Christmas dream.
Each bauble measures around 7.5cm (3”) tall, and we’ll provide plenty of stuffing for your first creation.
Class duration: 3 hours
Skill level: Intermediate or confident Advanced Beginner
This workshop brings together two of Linda’s most-loved techniques – stranded colourwork and knitting in the round. Even if you’ve joined her before, you’re bound to pick up new tips and tricks. If you’re newer to these methods, a little experience with circular needles will help you get the most from the class.
In this class, you’ll learn how to:
-
Understand the basics of stranded colourwork
-
Manage multiple strands without the tangles
-
Catch and carry floats neatly on the back of your work
-
Read and follow colourwork charts
-
Knit comfortably in the round on a small circumference
-
Increase with the Make One (M1) technique
-
Knit a tidy little i-cord to finish your bauble in style
What to bring:
-
8ply/DK weight yarn (like Peppin 8 or Bellissimo 8) in at least two contrasting colours – around 10g of each per bauble
-
3.25mm 80–100cm circular needles for magic loop, or double-pointed needles if you prefer
-
Stitch marker
-
Darning needle
-
Scissors
You’ll leave with:
A completed or partially completed bauble, the pattern and skills to make more at home, and a heart full of festive cheer. (We’ll provide the stuffing for your first ornament.)
Your teacher: Linda Scocca
Linda was taught how to knit by her mum when she was eight years old and encouraged by both her Nonnas to keep her hands busy. Knitting, crochet, embroidery and sewing where all a part of her life from a young age. After a break from crafting Linda came back to it, and knitting in particular, with a vengeance! Shawls, jumpers, cardigans, socks, colourwork, lace, cables, accessories - she wants and does knit all the things! Linda enjoys helping many knitters and crocheters decipher tricky patterns and learn new techniques at our regular Tuesday morning clinic. She has oodles of patience for beginners and is excited to welcome newcomers to our much loved craft.
