The Universe in Bloom CAL is a crochet-along project for a large square blanket designed by Dedri Uys, which runs from 8 October to 17 December 2025. The CAL involves a series of pattern parts released weekly over 12 weeks. The pattern has detailed photographs to show the various crochet techniques, and video tutorials for left handed and right handed crocheters are available on Dedri's blog "Look At What I Made" .

Designed by renowned crochet artist and designer Dedri Uys, the blanket bursts with joyful colour, playful textures, and clever techniques—inviting adventurous beginners and seasoned crocheters alike on a journey of skill and imagination." Here's what Jane says about her project: "I'm really enjoying making this blanket so far. There are lots of interesting and unusual techniques... About the CAL
- What it is: A 12-week crochet-along (CAL) for the "Universe in Bloom" blanket.
- Dates: October 8 to December 17, 2025.
- Designer: Dedri Uys.
- Skill Level: Suitable for adventurous beginners and experienced crocheters.
- Pattern details: Free pattern updates are released weekly on Wednesdays at 12 noon CET/CEST (9pm AEDT / 8pm AEST / 6pm AWST) and are also shared on Ravelry.
- Terminology: the pattern is available in US and UK terms in English, plus in Dutch and German.
Yarn
We've put together some stunning floriferous sets inspired by Australian native flowers using gorgeous Fiddlesticks Posie, a soft, 100% cotton, machine washable fingering/4ply yarn, or build your own bunch using the full colour range. Alternatively this blanket would also be stunning simply crocheted in a single colour.
Each set contains enough yarn to make the blanket and includes 33 balls of Fiddlesticks Posie in 7 colours.
- Depending on your gauge and the hook used you may need extra balls of a few colours as you near the end of your project. We always stock Posie so the yarn will be readily available. As Jane works through the blanket she will talk about the yarn for each round including how much she's used.
We will include a guide to colour placement with your order.
Please note: our images show Fiddlesticks Wren, but you will be receiving Posie and the colours are identical.

- Everlasting Daisy: Fairy
- Grevillea: Peony
- Gum Blossom: Denim Blue
You will also need (not included):
- 3-3.5mm crochet hook, depending on your gauge (Jane is using a 3mm hook).
- Locking or split ring stitch markers are recommended by the designer for marking your place in the project.
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
