In 2021, Deb made the beautiful Nuts about Squares blanket for her little boy, Rupert. You can find the introduction to the blanket and Deb's process on our blog here.

In this post, we're going to look at each of the squares that she made and the colours she used for each.

The Nuts about Squares blanket was compiled by Esther from It's All in a Nutshell. You make 35 amazing squares from 14 designs by 11 talented designers. After joining it all together a beautifully textured border is added to finish it off.

You can find all the instructions for it here, which includes step-by-step videos for each square compiled by Esther.

It is ideal for crocheters who are looking for a fabulously fun project that will keep you interested in each square, and you'll end up with a beautiful blanket at the end.

Kits and colours

To celebrate this wonderful project, we have put together kits in beautiful Bellissimo Linden wool/cotton in the colours that I used. You can find the kits here to purchase your own.

  • A - 10101 Ivory
  • B - 10102 Linen
  • C - 10103 Silver
  • D - 10105 Earth
  • E - 10111 Rhubarb
  • F - 10113 Orchid
  • G - 10114 Mustard
  • H - 10116 Chilli
  • I - 10119 Ice Blue
  • J - 10121 Willow
  • K - 10122 Prusse
  • L - 10106 Charcoal (for joining the squares and the last row of every square)

Every square finishes with a final row to bring the stitch count to 44 stitches. I used 10106 Charcoal for every final row (it was Rupert's choice. And he was right!), and also to join all the squares together.

My big tip

One of the challenges of crochet is sewing the ends in! I highly recommend doing it as you go, so you're not left with a million to do at the end. I shared a great way to do it in this video on sewing in your ends.
