Join Jake Henzler (Boy Knits World), knitting designer and author of Knit in the City: Building Blocks, for a trip around the world on a colourful knitting adventure! In this 2 hour, hands-on workshop you'll learn the key colourwork techniques needed to created the striking block patterns from the book, while knitting row by row through one block from either Sydney or London blocks. Jake will also show you how to interpret and adapt the block patterns to make them your own. You will need to purchase the book, Knit the City: Building Blocks for this class.
In this class you'll learn...
- How to place twists neatly for crisp, defined colour changes
- How to carry floats smoothly across the back of your work, including next-row trapping o help keep you tension even and comfortable
- How to spot and fix common colourwork mistakes with confidence
- How to read and follow block-based colourwork patterns - and use the grids supplied in the book to build your own!

Have a beautiful colourwork block underway and, more importantly, feel confident in the techniques behind it. You'll leave ready to continue your chosen city block at home and excited to explore more of the patterns in Knit the City, with skills that will carry over into any stranded knitting project you choose next.

Skill level: From adventurous beginner to experienced knitter. Some colourwork knitting experience would be helpful.
What to bring:
- A copy of Knit the City (Available for preorder now - pick it up on the day of the class if you wish)
- 3.75-4.00mm needles, straight or circular
- Starter yarn sets are available for this class
- Scissors
- Needle stoppers or a stitch holder for any unfinished work
- You are also welcome to bring spare DPNs one size down from your working needles - this is useful for showing how to secure a row for any necessary frogging.
Your teacher: Jake Henzler

Jake Henzler is a textile artist and designer from Sydney, Australia. He has been practising and exhibiting work internationally since 2006. Working mainly with yarn and needlecraft techniques, his work ranges from knitted cityscape blankets to individual sculptural portraits and original characters. Recognisable influences include folk art traditions and popular culture, with a focus on elements of collectability, reproducibility and practical pattern-making. Jake has published a range of patterns for knitted blankets, objects and characters, both in print and online, and is most well-known for his Copenhagen Building Blocks designs. Jake's designs and other creative endeavours are all documented on his Instagram account @Boy_Knits_World and you can find Jake's patterns on his Ravelry designer page Jake Henzler.

- Full payment is required prior to the start of the class to confirm your spot.
- Minimum numbers - This class requires a minimum of five people in order to go ahead and, depending on the class, a maximum of 10. If your class or workshop does not have the minimum number of students, the class will be postponed and you will be notified within three days of the class date if it has been cancelled or changed.
- We cannot be held liable for travel or any other costs in the event of a cancellation.
- If your class is postponed or cancelled you can use the amount paid to transfer to another event/activity, use it as a store credit, or be issued a full refund. Cancelling a class – you are able to cancel, postpone or swap a class up to 7 days prior to the class date to receive a full refund. Less than 7 days prior, we cannot guarantee a full refund unless another booking fills your spot.
