Are you ready to blast off??!! It’s time for the annual Westknits MKAL (Mystery Knit A Long)! The MKAL is Stephen West's annual Mystery Shawl Knit Along and this year’s shawl is called Geogradient, his 14th MKAL! Past MKALs have resulted in some of the most loved and treasured Westknits shawl patterns including Exploration Station, The Doodler and Slipstravaganza.
Stephen has said this year's shawl will be a beginner-friendly design with detailed video tutorials released each week showing all of the techniques.
Here's what you need to know...the adventure begins on 5 October 2023 and we'll knit together throughout the month of October. A section of the pattern is released each week for 4 weeks until the final design is revealed. The Mystery Shawl is a complete surprise, so when you sign up by purchasing the pattern, you only know what types of yarn and needles you need along with Stephen's colour recommendations. The overall shape and dimensions of the shawl are part of the mystery! All we know is Geogradient Shawl will be a large shawl, but it won’t be quite as massive as some previous MKAL shawls that used 5 colours. There will be an option at the end of the MKAL to customize the size as well if you have extra yarn to make the shawl larger or if you want to stop a bit early for a smaller shawl.
Stephen says: "This year’s shawl will be a geometric explosion of colour using a gradient of four colours. Collect your colours from light to dark and create a crescendo of colour - it's going to be an out of this world mystery shawl knitting adventure! This is going to be such a beautiful shawl!"
The pattern requires the following yarn:
This year’s shawl features a gradient of 4 colours of fingering weight yarn, 100g (minimum 347m) of each colour.
