Have you ever looked at a knitting pattern and seen the term 'short row' or 'wrap and turn' and had no idea what to do? Join Tash as she leads you through the intricacies of short rows, how to resolve them and when to use each one.
Short rows are one of the magic tricks of knitting. They form shaping and help to turn a flat piece into one with curves and form that fits your body. They are used extensively in garments, to shape the back of a neckline and in bust, waist and hem shaping, to turn the heel of a sock and also in shawls to add an extra dimension to the shawl shape. Mastering short rows opens up a whole new world of knitting.
We will learn how to make and resolve the following different types of short rows:
  • Wrap and turn
  • German short rows
  • Japanese short rows
Before the class: Using a light-coloured DK or worsted yarn (8 or 10ply) and needle size to match, cast on 28 sts. Knit 4 rows garter and then 4 rows stockinette and leave the work on the needles to bring to class.

You're also entitled to a 10% discount on purchases in store on the day.

Your teacher: Tash Childers
Tash has been knitting ever since her grandmother taught her at 8 years of age. She was always a fearless knitter, tackling an all-over intarsia vest for her mum as her first garment when she was 12. While taking time off from Mathematics teaching to raise her children, she taught many of her friends to knit and co-ordinated a mothers’ group for knitters. She is passionate about sharing the joy of knitting with others and helping knitters to improve their skills, so they have the confidence to tackle any project.
