BC Garn Soft Silk
100% silk (bourette)
Length: 350mWeight: 100g
This beautifully soft pure raw silk yarn adds wonderful texture to your projects. Perfect for garments and accessories, in gorgeous jewel-like colours.
BC Garn Soft Silk is a soft and rustic bourette silk, also known as raw silk. It's beautifully soft and is gorgeous to knit and crochet. It has some elasticity so stitches hold well on the needles and the fabric created has a slightly rustic quality to it (without being rough).
Although it's quite a fine yarn, it is quite versatile in its gauge. We can see it working well with a tighter gauge around 24-25 stitches right up to a light and airy gauge of 16-18 stitches. Perfect for tops and other garments, shawls, wraps, coverups, and more. Like all raw silk, there will be some thick and thin areas of the yarn, but that's part of its charm!

Silk has very special qualities. Being warm in winter and cool on a hot summer day, it is the perfect year-round yarn for our climate. It is also ideal for baby and children's garments.
Due to the high proportion of silk glue, the bourette silk is said to have a natural healing power - it also has anti-inflammatory effects and soothes the skin.
About bourette silk: it is made from loose or damaged mulberry silkworm cocoons, which often happens when the silkworm moths are allowed to come out of their cocoons naturally. Unlike mulberry silk which is smooth and shiny, it has a slightly rough, rustic look and is completely matte - it looks and feels like soft, uneven cotton. Fabrics made of this yarn are light and wrinkle-free, they also have a perceptible texture and stickiness.
Nature is important to BC Garn, and Soft Silk is dyed with AZO free and Oeko-Tex certified dyes, which means that the dye process is gentle to the environment.
Soft Silk is spun and dyed by a small mill in India.

There may be excess dye in some of the colours. If you are using two colours together that are highly contrasting (eg. white and red) we recommend rinsing the yarn in cold water before use; finish with a rinse of water with a little vinegar added to it. Always wash in cold water.
